finished mobile suit gundam 1979

holy peakk....

it was actually unironically so good for a show that came out in 1979. especially ep 41 man that was just so... amazing...

anyways idk how to review bruh idk how to say this but this show has the same feeling as like mob psycho 100 or undertale where you know there are definitely better written shows/movies/games out there but its a story that was truly written with heart and care. 

theres just something so human about gundam like idk what. a lot of war bad stories have moments and scenes where they show the characters humanity by realizing that theyre all just people fighting for nothing but idk something hit different with gundam. 

i really love how gundam doesnt truly have a bad side and a good side. like there are characters like gihren whos just straight up a dictator but every other character is just a human being trying to live. the only bad things are the systems/governemnt/federation that force these characters to fight for a meaningless cause.

even tho the protagonist is on the earth federation side, the characters on the neo zeon side are never really portrayed as like evil people who just do evil stuff for fun. there are actually so many moments where they show that the people of neo zeon are just humans like everyone else. like that one scene where a neo zeon soldier gets worried about a widowed woman and her son traveling on a vast desert so they airdrop food and water to them. i like that. 

i only wish the female characters like mirai and fraw had more screentime/were treated better. like why did mirai fall in love with a man who literally slapped her across the face. and fraw bow is literally just a girl. like she does housework stuff and thats it. and also LALAH i wish she got a backstory and more character moments bro.. she is my 2nd fav character of the show. shes so interesting i wish she was more than just a symbol. i heard she gets a backstory in gundam: the origin. i need to get on that real quick

also i wish there were a few less mobile suit fights in space. I KNOWW the show is literally called mobile suit gundam. but theres a fight in space literally every episode that are lowkey kinda boring and i think it wouldve been better if they were replaced by episodes with actual character interactions instead because the character interactions in this show are the best part methinks. like i wanna see these characters hang out and have fun plss i know they in a war but theyre all teenagers man let them rest. 

also the newtype stuff was so interesting. it was so wonderful. i love that they picked empathy as the greatest thing a human can achieve. like the next path for human evolution isnt super strength or super speed but empathy. that is so beautiful <3
