A Halloween Story (Part 1)
Happy Halloween everyone!
In 2018, I tried to make a story that's halloween-themed about these 3 kids who had died but gets reborn as monsters. They cannot be seen by other humans but they have special powers where during the night, they are able to enter people's dreams.
I used to be sort of obsessed with these guys. They were probably the only ocs I actually cared about.
Here is the main cast!
Luna is a happy-go-lucky bat (cat, monster?) girl that loves fly and be free as stated in the reference. Shes carefree, cheerful, and friendly! However, on some nights, Luna yearns to go back to her regular, human life.

This is Reo! He is a bit anxious and shy but loves his friends nonetheless. He has a sentient plant as his tail thats a bit annoying. I didn't give the plant a name unfortunately.

Today's song of the day is A Day In The Life by The Beatles! the greatest beatles song of all time. just gorgeous gorgeous song from the beginning with that melancholic guitar to the end with that grand piano chord just fading away slowly. I also love the lyrics too even though they are confusing. I interpreted it as a song about just daily life. How mundane but also crazy life can be. absolute peak song.

characters were ok. plot was ok (confusing sometimes). the artstyle was amazing 😍😍 wish more anime had unique artstyles like this!!!!!! everything else was ok.
when i was going into this i was expecting some cute wholesome wall-e type love story between that green guy and orange girl but i was wrong
im kinda disappointed because i expected kaiba to be an atleast 8/10 masterpiece but idk if im feeling that guys.
the ending was especially confusing for me like why does kaiba suddenly hate himself because of his mother. his mother was literally only mentioned once and kaiba is honestly kind of boring as a character idk
also this show was just weirdly misogynistic at times and its just huhjhhhhg masaaki yuasa can u be normal abt women pls

Started Kaiba!
started watching kaiba and im so confused but whatever. very experimental anime i see already. love love lovee the tezuka inspired artstyle and it also reminds me a lot of those indie french animations. also the anime in general for some reason reminds me of super mario galaxy and sonny boy which is a good thing love those two
anyways im a bit confused rn the basic plot i got was that these humanoid creature thingies have a social hierarchy where the poor live in the poopy dumps and the rich live above the clouds and the rich keeps trying to steal the poor peoples' memories and bodies (they do that with some type of machine) and yeah capitalism very interesting to see how this will go

Today's song of the day is あの時君は若かった (You Were Young Then) by The Spiders! such a cute song tbh. the chorus at 0:50 and 2:02 with that glockenspiel (glockenspiel is such a goofy name for an instrument) is so charming. the notes feel like theyre bouncing lightly. heavenly sounds
i didnt know the spiders were cool like that! i just knew them from kaze ga naiteru which was a good song but like i didnt know they had more bangers. might have to listen to more of their music perhaps

FUN FACT !! shonentai was so popular over asia that they spawned numerous other male idol groups during the 80s. One example is the Little Tigers, who are considered Taiwan's first boy band. This is their cover of what's your name and it lowkey goes hard. The Little Tigers then inspired other Taiwanese idol groups. funny how both shonentai and little tigers got a member named Nicky in it

thinking abt the oniisama e ending again
its still so bad. Rei's death was too quickly glossed over. There wasn't enough of Nanako mourning rei moments. Nanako was the one who spent the most time with Rei and even helped her find meaning in her life again yet we barely see Nanako actually thinking about rei and it bothers me. Instead we got Kaoru and Fukiko mourning Rei. I like that Kaoru gets more screentime but there should've been more Nanako.
Also I dont like how Mariko just forgives her father in the end. it makes no sense to me. I know kids with divorced parents have complicated relationships with them but I feel like what Mariko did in the end makes no sense at all. like what do you mean Mariko, the ultimate man-hater, just forgives her father just because he wrote a good book like idk man 😭
also that lost shot of the anime (the one where it shows Nanako with long hair) makes me so sick. even the feminine girls had to get even more forcibly feminized. its sick. I want short hair Nanako back!!!
Shiroi Heya no Futari (The Couple of the White Room)
yesterday i read Shiroi Heya no Futari (The Couple of the White Room) its a very short series with only just one volume and 3 chapters. It is considered the first yuri manga ever and I can definitely see the influence this manga had. The basic plot of Shiroi is that this goody two shoes girl named Resine starts her new life at an all girls boarding school. Resine has to share a dorm room with this rude and rebellious girl named Simone. They hate each other at first but soon grow to develop feelings.
The all girls school ✓ the cute and nice girl with light hair and the mysterious and cool girl with dark hair ✓ the drama ✓ takarazuka/theatre references ✓ flower symbolism ✓ the tragedy ✓ yeah i can definitely see how this was the very first yuri manga ever that set the foundations
Shiroi Heya no Futari was very good. I went into it with low expectations because yknow its a manga from the 70s with like 3 chapters so... 💀 but I was pleasantly surprised with how progressive it was. I mean there's still some problems but for a 70s manga it was pretty good. The girls do admit their love for each other.
Anyways, other than that, the dialogue was a bit wonky at times but i think thats because the translation was not very good. I think it did a good job with the story given only 3 chapters. Nothing really felt too slow or too fast. The art, although anatomically incorrect at times, was charming and at times absolutely gorgeous. The drama was done very well i was actually invested in the girls' relationship witch each other. ill give Shiroi a 7/10!

my friend has just notified me of the existence of this 80s korean manhwa/aeni called 달려라 하니 aka Run, Hani! and it actually looks so good
absolutely in love with this artstyle esp the 1st one. she looks like a fusion between hiromi oka from ace wo nerae and kaoru orihara from oniisama e lol love her hair and eyes!
from what i could gather its about this 13 year old girl named Hani who lives with her mother (her father works overseas so Hani barely sees him). but then suddenly, her mother dies and Hani becomes an orphan. With nothing now, Hani develops a passion for running, the only thing that she loves

Lots of very good songs on this one, her previous albums were kinda lacking to me tbh (might be harsh cuz like i said, i only listened to 3 albums including this one my opinion might change later) a lot of the songs felt a little too ehhh for me. but this album "Bitter and Sweet" has quite a few unique songs and i love every single one!

finished oniisama e / thoughts
what was that ending.
ok oniisama e that ending was genuinely so bad man. its so disappointing to see such a good anime fall off so hard. it kinda took everything the previous episodes said and just completely ruined it. whatever.
but oniisama e is still a very good anime (if you ignore the last 6-ish episodes) and i mean really good oh my god.
oniisama e episodes 1-33 are all straight 10/10 masterpieces with only very few misses. really had me on the edge of my seat wanting to know what happens next. (I cried several times) the drama, the emotion, the relationships between the girls were all so amazing. really encapsulates the life of a teenage girl in highschool i think. Oniisama e might be my new favorite anime, of all time. I love the main cast so much. nanako, tomoko, mariko, rei, kaoru, and even fukiko. They all felt so real and I felt a deep connection with them.
funny how riyoko ikeda made the best characters of all time and also the worst characters of all time. shes so funny she makes all the female characters interesting and all the male characters boring. mariko is probably one of the most compelling characters of all time
i hate you henmi and takashi and all the fathers and every other male character in this anime
as a final score i would give oniisama e a 9/10 really couldve been a masterpiece if it werent for those last few episodes :/
anyways despite the few gripes i have with this show, I still love it very much! life-changing show! my new favorite anime!

its so annoying i hate it so bad cant stand bands like bon jovi, kansas, journey (ik kansas and journey formed in the 70s but most of their hits are in the 80s/late 70s)

rei's voice
one thing that i always found funny abt oniisama e is rei's voice lol. she smokes like 10 packs a day but her voice is so soft and cute. when i first saw rei, i expected her voice to be deep like megumi ogata type voice but its the complete opposite
she sounds and looks like a wet cat that was sent out in a cardboard box out in the rain.

Anyways this song is incredible. Composed by Ryuichi Sakamoto so you already know its gonna be peak! Very futuristic-sounding. the buildup from the beginning is so good!! starting off slow and quiet and then just absolutely blows you away with all those instrumentals! definitely my favorite song on this album :D
