11/29/24 ~ a dream about a powerful cube

a visual ~ floating white cube in space woawr with a

I had this dream a few days ago so i decided to draw it. i think i should do that often. try to draw my dreams. it works well as background exercise

anyways this was the dream: 

the main protagonist was a guy that kinda looked like kenji sawada (lol) and he was trying to steal the power from this giant floating cube in space that had faces on it (like the face door from adventure time) and to get the power from the cube u had to solve some type of puzzle by pressing on the faces and then after that you needed a gold key to solve the final step. 

but an antagonist appears! this girl (who's kinda like a secret agent/detective) is trying to stop the main guy from stealing the ultimate power. the two of them are kinda like enemies/rivals but also they love eachother. so they had a lot of playful banter. but she has to stop main guy from acting crazy and destroy the entire world.

Today's song of the day is 日本よいとこ摩訶不思議 (Wonderful Mysterious Japan) by Shonentai! this might be one of my fav shonentai dances of all time. god such a fun song with such fun and insane choreography

I need everyone to see this performance. shonentai was actually insane for this. they really played out an entire fight scene in the middle of the song using bo staffs and nunchucks. incredible.

finished azumanga daioh (for real)

ok but for real i actually really loved this anime

i didnt know what to expect going in because im not really a big fan of slice of life anime where there is not much of a plot but azumanga was really good. it was actually funny. i laughed out loud for real for some scenes. 

i love the main cast so much. i love all my girls. theyre all so relatable in some way or another. i relate to every single one of them. theyre so silly. my favs were osaka, chiyo, and tomo tho. 

also the last episode almost made me cry ngl im gonna miss these girls so bad :( goodbye azumanga daioh

also fun fact!! this song was originally supposed to be Kenji Sawada's song but he turned it down (because the lyrics were very weird 💀) so the dudes who made this song gave it to akina instead and she accepted but she hated this song so bad lol. tbh i wouldve hated it too

started watching azumanga daioh and osaka already top 10 characters of all time. i love her so much my daughter. she makes me feel seen because she talks very slow and i also talk very slow. and shes also very physically weak and im very physically weak. both of those things i was (still am) insecure abt but osaka makes me feel better abt it. they never really make fun of her for those traits that she has.

just wanted to talk abt this random old j-drama from the 1970s man i dont know i put anything on this blog 

anyways i found abt this drama like months ago but i couldnt find it anywhere to watch it sad. its a shame cuz i was actually really interested in it. 

i forgot to say what this series is abt my bad. let me just copy from wikipedia cuz i dont wanna write all that. oh cool so its like oniisama e and euphoria and glee and all those other teen dramas. i wanna watch this so bad. i love dramas!!!!!! teen drama where all the teens are mentally ill!

also this series is apparently widely influential in japan and is referenced a lot. thats so cool. god i love finding out what influenced modern media its so awesome. i get so excited when i find out abt old influential media and how it shaped pop culture. i need to become a pop culture historian.

yknow its funny cuz i was watching a gintama video a few weeks ago that had a scene where it was referencing kinpachi sensei and i was like hmmm that sounds familliar and then my mind goes back to this drama and im like oh!!! its a kinpachi sensei parody!!! and thats why im writing this post btw cuz i just remembered abt this old ass drama

Today's song of the day is 花・太陽・雨 (Flowers, Sun, and Rain) by PYG! In regards to my last post, I will post a kenji sawada related song. There's 2 versions of this song the album version which is the one above and the single version which is below

 

The album ver (the one above) is much slower and quieter while the single ver is a bit faster with a heavier tone added by that amazing guitar. At the end of the single ver there is that epic guitar with all the voices harmonizing. and in the album ver its the same thing except no epic guitar, but quiet guitar, and no crescendos.

i love both versions very much. they both have such a different feeling to it. the album version sounds like tragic defeat while the single version sounds like ur still fighting even tho u know ur gonna lose do you guys know what i mean

Today I watched the movie The Man Who Stole The Sun (1979) directed by Kazuhiko Hasegawa! what an insane film.

the story's protag is this deranged science teacher named kido makoto who doesnt do much in his life really... so he gets bored and decides to build a literal atomic bomb and plays tricks with the police department, saying that he will literally explode the entire nation of japan if they dont do what he wants

the man who stole the sun himself!!!

i dont know what i was expecting going into this tbh i just watched it cuz my man kenji sawada was playing the lead role but it was a really great film. there were a lot of unique moments in this movie and also it was surprisingly funny like i actually did laugh a bit. also i heard that this film is a cult classic for japanese film nerds so im glad to have watched it

the 3rd act of this film was the absolute greatest. the insanity of this plot is at its peak here

alot about nihilism and japan's post-war radical parties but im too dumb to write an actual analysis but yeah the cast was great too kenji did a pretty good job acting despite the fact that hes an idol (idols are not known for their great acting skills 💀) and bunta sugawara the guy who plays the main detective thats trying to get makoto he was great too. 

very fun film i enjoyed it alot also i watched this almost the entire way through with stopping to take a break only 2 times during this 2 hr and 30 min film im proud of myself
