finished homestuck

FINALLY FINISHED HOMESTUCK

after exactly 6 months.,,, i finished homestuck. i started on 9/11/25 and finished on 3/11/26 yesterday. what an incredible journey. it genuinely should not have taken me this long but whatever.

homestuck truly is one of the most life-altering pieces of media im ngl. the way it utilizes its multi-media aspect is so phenomenal. and the fact that it is multi-media actually does play into the narrative itself with actual plot-based devices like the retcon. its genuinely such an intriguing story. i can see why it got so popular during 2009-2016. 

its themes of rejecting fate and social norms are done in a really unique way imo. like even in parts of the story where it seems like its not actually serious plays into these themes and even the stupidest smallest things can stand as symbolism for something. and it actually works lowkey. i usually hate un-seriousness and irony during important parts of the story but homestuck just somehow works. its the most irony-poisoned story ever and it works every single time. like that homosuck section also talks about rejecting fate and social norms. 

homestuck also has a lot to do with stuff like fandom culture / being chronically online so i think i was drawn to it by that. like the characters speak through texting like 60% of the time. and i think that was a great choice because wow homestuck genuinely has some of the best character voices ever. like the way the characters speak and type makes such strong characterization. ex: dave speaking in all lowercase no punctuation > makes him sound/look very monotone and irony-poisoned which he is. the characters feel so real. like these are true chronically online teenagers. 

but not only that, homestuck genuinely has some great prose im ngl is it bad that i learned some new words that ive never heard of b4 thru homestuck 😭 one of my favorite examples of great homestuck prose is the ending towards act 4 where every single sentence is very short, very concise 1-2 sentences with the same structure but with different words. it was very effective especially since the pictures showed most of the story (great way of showing not telling)

so yeah homestuck is freaking awesome. but yeah i hav some problems. some parts were genuinely so confusing bro i swear. i still dont fully understand how sburb works (kinda?? i guess) also some parts were genuinely so boring and such a chore to get through. (especially the alterniabound game sections bro holyyy) i think it took me like 2 weeks to get thru the alterniabound sections. theyre somehow both my favorite and least favorite parts of homestuck. (because wow cool rpg game in a webcomic!? thats awesome but it was so long) i think it wouldve been better if they didnt unnecessarily add so many characters that play literally 0 part in the story. like bro idgaf abt any of these dancestors!!! 😭😭 their designs are cool but their characters are all so one-note like

and also the first part of act 6 was gen so boring bro like i hated the alpha kids at first but they really did grow on me but also omg act 6 beginning was so boring. some days i just didnt feel like reading cuz omg it was such a chore during some parts.

i think i have a few more gripes with homestuck but thats kinda the most i have rn also this thing is getting long. anyways homestuck is life-changing god bless homestuckia. i love you beta kids and beta trolls. alpha kids and alpha trolls yall too ig. acts 1-5 were peak fiction. act 6 beginning kys. act 6-credits (almost) peak fiction

Today's song of the day is Umbral Ultimatum from Homestuck! this is one of my fav songs from homestuck. its soo goood. am i crazy or does this song kinda remind me of a ymo composition. i also love the part at 2:08 the 8bit part its so good. 

ok i just found out this song is composed by toby fox that make sense why it reminds me of ymo. this song sounds very touhou and toby fox loves his touhou project and touhou is most definitely inspired by ymo. 

i love the fact that ever since roblox got rid of chat, the roleplay games have been basically dead
