this year was a great year for me! ive made a lot of progress as a normal human being of society. got tons of my goals down. im becoming better each day. also this year actually felt like a year. past years have gone by too fast. 2024 was great! ive made some memories.

me being pretentious

sometimes i forget most people dont do art. im trying so hard not to be pretentious but man my friends are soooo. something. they use chatgpt, only watch shows and movies that are nicely packaged on netflix. its kinda its kinda um. it made me realize that im kinda different from everyone else. not trying to say that im better or anything at all. cuz im not that smart. im not smarter than anyone. and i definitely do need to discover more art. but i just wish people would care abt things that arent as mainstream yknow. get into other media that isnt from the western world. and also care abt art. 

like in english class. none of my tablemates actually wanna discuss the thing we're reading abt. they just use chatgpt or sometimes they actually do discuss but they can never say it seriously and it kinda makes me mad. i know were all teens and the books assigned to us are boring to read but i actually sometimes am interested in discussing the books were reading in class.

i wish more people were open to discussing things, and art, and things not made in the US

watched akira (1988)

oh my god bro. oh my goud. this film was sooo i dont even know how to explain. ok well first of all i definitely enjoyed it. but man im just i feel completely dumbfounded. 

ok let me talk abt the obvious thing first. oh my god this movie is so gorgeous. i posted the screenshots from the movie on my previous posts and do i even have to say anything. the city of neo-tokyo is everything i could ever want in a fictional world. god man every scene of this movie i was just so mesmerized by the art. 

as for the story itself i thought it was pretty good and got its message conveyed. i dont understand why so many people thought it was confusing or boring. i was really interested in it and understood its themes pretty well. how power can become corrupt by humans' selfish desires. how everyone is capable of bringing about destruction. throughout evolution, humans have remained the same with their unquenchable thirst for power. the dangers of nuclear warfare. i also thought this movie was about all the worst things japan has gone through. like world war ii and the riots that went on during the 1960s-70s.

also this movie was terrifying at times. like the body horror was insane. i actually felt disgusted watching it. it was great.

though i wish the characters and their relationships with each other was better. kaneda is an asshole protagonist but hes cool so its ok. tetsuo is an insane and insecure teenager and i wish he and kaneda had more moments together because they are the main opposing forces in the movie and idk their rivalling dynamic didnt feel that strong. also wish kaneda and kei had more bonding moments together because their relationship couldve been really fun but they didn't have enough time together. 

also the ending was confusing and kinda goofy ngl. it was the only part of the movie where i agree with everyone was confusing. like literally what happened. a new universe was created or something and kaneda and his gang ride off into the sunset like ok. also wtf happened to kaori. kaori deserved so much better man. she was just treated as tetsuo's side girl.

idgaf tho akira 9/10 might be even 10 changed my life forever. im so in awe. cool movie. it was so peak man. i felt so hyper after watching it

watched the original godzilla (1954)

guys i watched godzilla on bootleg dailymotion with 144p video quality with mediocre subs and terrible sound quality but i did it. i genuinely couldnt find any other alternative to watch online

anyways godzilla a classic movie abt that big dinosaur that destroys tokyo! a very artistic movie. the way they made this movie was incredible. even tho i watched this in 144p i could still tell how much work they put into creating all those miniature buildings and trying their best to emphasize how enormous godzilla is. there were so many amazing shots. the sound effects were also great. the roaring sound that godzilla makes actually sounds like a big scary monster!!!

however there were lots of things that i didnt like abt this movie too. i try to give it the benefit of the doubt since it came out in 1954 literally 70 years ago and storytelling has evolved very much since then but still. 

ok first of all the characters. theyre not that interesting. so i didnt really root for them. my fav scene in the movie was when godzilla was trying to kill everyone lol. i dont feel attached to the characters so i didnt really care if somebody died.

ok second of all theres nothing too deep abt this movie beyond "war bad" and "nuclear arms dangerous." not much of the dialogue stuck out to me either. ive seen too many antiwar japanese media maybe im getting a little bit tired of it.

those were my 2 biggest criticisms. godzilla was still a fun movie tho with some grogeous and terrifying shots 

erm 7/10 godzilla cool i keep rating everything i watch a 7 help

i miss infinity train

i miss infinity train man... it was so good. genuinely couldve been one of the greatest cartoons of our generation but ig cartoon network didnt want that

this show had such great emotional maturity and the characters were so messy and complex and real. man infinity train was so goated man i cant believe were never gonna see it end properly. that episode in season 3 with grace and hazel still makes me tear up sometimes

God this song... i love this song so much. i think it encapsulates the pain of being a teenager so well. this song feels like being a teenager who just had their first breakup and is walking alongside the beach all alone while listening to music at night

i also love the artistic choice of having the singing be muffled it fits so well with the song. truly creates a feeling of tuning everything out and just drowning in ur music and emotions. i love the lyrics. i love the part where there are only instrumentals it sounds so nostalgic. its so beautiful gorgeous and emotional. i love everything abt this song omg. literally top 5 akina songs of all time. Today's song of the day is One Step Beyond by Shonentai! I love this song so much. its interesting to me how, even though this song was composed by an American, it still sounds distinctly japanese. anyways i love the part where they say "Get There!" in repeat of each other its so catchy to me for some reason. 

and also today is shonentai's debut anniversary 12/12/1985 (well technically it was yesterday if were talking abt japan timezone but whatever anyways)

Today's song of the day is Shin Gakki (1) from the azumanga daioh soundtrack. man i love azumanga so much bro. but it also makes me feel sad. azumanga makes me think abt my wasted highschool years. all i ever want in life is to hangout with friends and go to places with them and who i could graduate highschool with but thats probably not gonna happen. and it wont have the same effect cuz im already in my last years of highschool.
