song otd 12/12/24 + shonentai infodump brahh

Today's song of the day is One Step Beyond by Shonentai! I love this song so much. its interesting to me how, even though this song was composed by an American, it still sounds distinctly japanese. anyways i love the part where they say "Get There!" in repeat of each other its so catchy to me for some reason. 

and also today is shonentai's debut anniversary 12/12/1985 (well technically it was yesterday if were talking abt japan timezone but whatever anyways)

since its their anniversary im gonna infodump abt them cuz i have too much shonentai lore locked up in my brain

here comes the shonentai infodump:

this song's dance choreography was done by Michael Jackson's choreographer Michael Peters! how amazing is that. did u guys know shonentai were originally gonna also debut in America. i cant stop thinking abt this bruh. they even signed a contract with Warner Bros and recorded an entire album sung fully in english that never saw the light of the day im gonna kill myself.

for their (never-accomplished) american debut, they even appeared on various American tv shows such as the merv griffin show, late night with david letterman, and the abc morning show with jermaine jackson as the host. they also were at the very first mtv vmas in 1984 and performed there on stage. i would literally kill a man to see all this shonentai lost media 

sadly they never debuted in america tho because americans didnt quite know how to react to shonentai's "asian-ness" i guess or something idk how to explain it

also another random fact abt shonentai is that they were at the legendary 1985 live aid where queen performed their iconic bohemian rhapsody song isnt that so awesome guys
